Vancouver / MST Territories – Ruby Slippers Theatre to host an online panel discussion on the topic of Bicultural Identity and Belonging on January 19, 2026 via Zoom webinar.

What are the ingredients to belonging? What are the unique barriers that 1.5 to 2nd generation Canadians face in navigating their bicultural identity? These experiences are at the heart of the stories being showcased this year at the Advance Theatre Festival, and have been a recurring theme woven throughout Ruby Slippers’ past work. With this panel, we aim to dive deeper into this conversation with our community. We will have a blended panel of 4 artists with lived experience and 2 community service professionals who can speak to a broader context; their discussion will be facilitated by Charlie Smith from Pancouver.

Points of discussion may include representing culture on stage in genuine, non stereotypical ways, writing authentic characters, bridging connections between the generations, and more. Our hope is that by engaging with this topic, participants will feel empowered to celebrate their whole selves, their whole identity.

Please note the panel discussion portion of the event will be recorded for public sharing.

Facilitator: Charlie Smith

Panelists: Pedro Chamale, Payvand Gonzalez, Ava Jung, Faly Mevamanana, Abi Padilla, and Tricia Trinh
