Board of Directors Biographies

Lysa Dixon, President

Lysa Dixon is a local Vancouver mortgage broker who spends much of her time chasing her dogs through the forest. The vision and mission of RST really resonate with Lysa, and so after being a long time follower of RST she joined the board 2  years ago.

Melody Bureau-Belkin, Vice President

Melody Bureau-Belkin is a musician and piano teacher in Vancouver and was first drawn to Ruby Slippers Theatre for its dedication to female-led artistry, and for performing Quebec-originated theatre. She was born in Montreal, of French-Canadian heritage, but grew up in Vancouver, where she moved back to 15 years ago, after living all over the US and the Middle East. She, her husband, and four children recently bought a farm on Salt Spring Island, where she is looking forward to combining her love of nature and love of music. As a teacher, Melody is focused on inspiring creativity, and she brings that passion to RST.

Nancy Caldwell, Secretary/Treasurer

Nancy is proud to be associated with Ruby Slippers Theatre with its diversity-centric vision. And she LOVES live theatre!

Mikayla Wust, Director at Large

Mikayla is an emerging theatre artist and crafter. She was thankful to join Ruby Sippers for their production of Les Belles-soeurs and was inspired by the work and honoured to be asked to be apart of its board and continue to support the work it’s creating. She’s spent most of the lockdown creating more dishcloths and potholders than she knows what to do with and catching up on a lot of reading. She is looking forward to serving another year and finding ways to keep theatre alive during this unprecedented time.

Carmen Carpentier, Director at Large

Carmen enjoys creating in the kitchen, exploring the endless hiking trails in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, where she has called home for the past 32 years.  She also enjoyed her weekly volunteering with the Cowichan Therapeutic Riding Association as a side-walker and looks forward to returning once the pandemic is over.  The hop from the Island to the mainland has not been an obstacle for her to attend past productions of Ruby Slippers Theatre.

She aims to contribute to the committed Board of Directors by serving as an enthusiastic member and continue the very important mission Ruby Slippers Theatre has set out.

Larisse Campbell, Director at Large

Larisse Campbell is a theatre director, mother and educator. She recently founded PIPAC, Parents in the Performing Arts Canada as a meeting place for caregivers in the arts and was a member of the 2020 Director’s Lab North cohort. She is looking forward to another year as a member of the board as she celebrates the diverse and Womxn centered artistic work that Ruby Slippers offers the community.

Jeanne Murko-Wust, Director at Large

Monice Peter, Director at Large

It is my skin colour which is so arbitrary but yet extremely significant in how I have existed in this world. My body of work, much of it in the extreme colonial and patriarchal realm. I am also, an awesome human being who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.

Renae Morriseau, Director at Large

Renae Morriseau is of Saulteaux and Cree descent; she is a producer, actor, writer, and director of award-winning tv documentaries and theatre productions, and a musician.  I’m excited and motivated to join the efforts of RST because of their support for emerging and established play writes. And to tell stories from women that speak of facing adversity, and difference as they traverse the meaning of home.
