![]() Who we are: Ruby Slippers TheatreRuby Slippers Theatre was co-founded in 1989 by a collective of women artists from various disciplines who wanted to change the world. Our legacy includes 60 projects, over 30 professional theatre awards, 3 national tours, and 8 full-length original works. Over the last 6 years alone we have garnered 31 Jessie Richardson Theatre Award nominations including twice for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Production, and 12 Awards. Diane Brown is co-founder and Artistic Director of the company. The artistic mission statementRuby Slippers Theatre creates, produces and presents provocative, text-based theatre from French and English Canada. We tell stories that illuminate diverse perspectives and social issues, changing the world one play at a time. What we doWe choose to develop, produce and present works that provoke dialogue and are of interest to our audience. By furthering unique voices that question status quo assumptions about our society and ourselves, we have earned a reputation for smart social satire. Our distinctiveness lies in our commitment to courageous, provocative Canadian voices which we realize into aesthetically compelling works. Ruby Slippers Theatre is a founding member of the See Seven Performing Arts Society, members of the Alliance for Arts and Culture, The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, are affiliate members of PACT, and regularly engage theatre professionals from the Canadian Actors Equity Association and Associated Designers of Canada. Artistic Director Diane Brown is a founder and Past President of the See Seven Performing Arts Society, and an active member of the Making a Scene Conference Committee, the Advisory Committee for Langara College's Theatre Arts Program, Theatre Cares Vancouver, The Wrecking Ball Committee, The Jessie Richardson Awards Society, and the Advocacy Committee for the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres. Ruby Slippers Theatre has offered Vancouver residents some of the most startling theatre events over the last 21 years. These include our ground-breaking Brecht In The Park series, Herotica and Herotica 2, our original jazz cabarets RubyCAB and RubyCAB 2000, and critically heralded multi award-winning productions like Down Dangerous Passes Road, The Winners, The Cat Who Ate Her Husband, The Leisure Society, Trout Stanley, Life Savers and A Beautiful View. COURAGE HEART BRAINSRuby Slippers Theatre is a founding member of The See 7 Performing Arts Society.We are also a member of the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, The Alliance for Arts and Culture, and an affiliate member of P.A.C.T. Ruby Slippers Theatre has earned over 40 Jessie Richarson Theatre Awards and even more nominations for outstanding work in acting, lighting design, set design, costume design, sound design, and directing.
